Water consumption is a very common topic. In fact, we consume a lot of it on a daily basis as individuals, whether for showering, washing dishes, etc.

But businesses also consume a lot of water due to the large number of industrial processes, particularly in the textile industry. This is why water has become an environmental and economic issue, particularly for businesses but also for us, individuals.

The textile industry

The fashion industry is the 3rd largest consumer of water in the world and in addition to water consumption, the fashion industry pollutes with numerous treatments for clothes but also through transport.

70% of textiles purchased in Europe come from the other side of the world, transported by plane or boat.

There is a significant water consumption for cotton, particularly with the finishing phase which is the finishing of the textile, i.e. dyeing and washing.

Each year, 624,000 tonnes of textiles, clothing, household linen, and shoes are placed on the market, or around 2.6 billion items.

Of these 624,000 tonnes of items only 239,000 tonnes were collected and sorted in 2018, 60% of which were reused and 40% destroyed or transformed into rags.

We, individuals …

Choose the right material to reduce over-consumption

Are there less polluting fibers?

250g t-shirt requires 2,500 liters of water to be produced!

– 63% of fibers are chemical like polyester or acrylic

Advantages: durable and quick drying

Disadvantage: absorbs odors based on toxic products

– Compared to 26% of natural fibers such as wool, silk, and linen.

Advantages: natural and comfortable

Disadvantage: pilling

Maintain well

Washing our synthetic clothing in machines releases around 500,000 tonnes of microplastics, which is equivalent to 50 billion plastic bottles into the ocean.

It is important to choose your detergent carefully, in fact, the products that we use to wash the laundry remain present in the fibers of the fabrics despite rinsing and are then sometimes in direct contact with our skin.

This is why the LprR team quickly adapted to ecological laundry detergent.

The advantages of ecological laundry?

There are more natural ingredients and therefore less polluting during production and use. In addition, it helps limit the risk of allergies.

“  slow fashion” Fashion designed to last qualitatively and not quantitatively

Slow fashion is part of a new lifestyle trend, slow life, which aims to slow down in general.

The textile sector has been losing speed in recent years.

The French buy less clothes.

For 60% of them, the cause is budgetary and for 40% it is to be more responsible.

Be the perfect “  slow consumer  ”! Resell, repair, rent or bargain!

Because don't forget:
